Waxing may be for you, if you:
- Suffer from painful bumps & ingrown hairs due to shaving
- Hate shaving everyday
- Like long lasting results & smoother skin
The only time waxing isn’t for you is if you are on acne medication, antibiotics, use AHAs/BHAs and retinol regularly. With acne medication you need to be off of it for at least 6 months before you can get waxed. AHAs, retinol and other acids need to stop being used at least 7 days prior to your wax appointment. These products thin the skin and can result in your skin being
Your first time getting waxed is usually the most painful. Once you become consistent, waxing will become less painful and quicker. Your esthetician will apply pressure after every wax strip is pulled to help with discomfort. You will be walked through the whole process and given proper aftercare instructions for your newly waxed area. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. Also, it’s okay to be nervous, just know you are in good hands!
This is all dependent on your pain threshold. However, we are removing hair at the end of the day, so you will most likely experience some discomfort. As professionals it is our job to make it as comfortable and painless as possible, so we apply pressure to the area after a wax strip is pulled to lessen any pain. At the end of the service we apply product to replenish and calm the skin.
As a reminder following proper care before + after your appointment also determines the comfortability of your wax.
We recommend growing your hair at least 3-4 weeks out. We require your hair to be at least a 1/4-1/2 inch long, or the size of a grain of rice to be waxed. If your hair is too short, we may ask you to reschedule.
No, leave the trimming to us! Sometimes when you trim, you can get carried away and make it too short all over, or just in certain areas and then we might not be able to get all of it. Please don’t be embarrassed if you have longer hair, we don’t mind, it’s just hair and nothing we haven’t seen before!
We use hard wax! Hard wax is a stripless wax that hardens directly on the skin, without the use of paper or muslin. It is designed to adhere over hair follicles instead of the skin, resulting in a more comfortable wax and less redness.
This is dependent upon what areas you get waxed. For larger or more stubborn areas, such as brazilian, legs, arms, chest, or back, we suggest coming in every 4-6 weeks. For smaller areas, such as face or underarms, we suggest coming in every 2-4 weeks. The exact timeframe is dependent on your hair growth cycle and will be giving to you by your esthetician, as everyones hair is different. It is very important to stay consistent with waxing for best results.
No, this is a myth. Our goal with waxing is to damage the hair follicle so that way the hair will grow back in thinner, softer, and more sparse.
No! For best results we recommend never shaving while waxing. If you shave between appointments your next wax will feel similar to the first time you were waxed, and it will disrupt your progress.
Yes! We always encourage you to discuss it with your doctor, but so many women still wax while pregnant. You may experience a little more discomfort during your wax service, as skin can be more sensitive during this time.
Yes! As long as you are wearing a tampon or menstrual cup you can still get waxed. We like to remind clients that they may experience a little more sensitivity while on their cycle.
- Be sure your hair is long enough
- Come in freshly showered or clean, we always have intimate wipes available for use
- Exfoliate the area at least 48hrs before, avoid exfoliating the day of your appointment
- Make sure skin is hydrated, but avoid applying heavy oils/moisturizers before your wax
- Take some ibuprofen and avoid caffeine/alcohol
- It’s okay to be nervous!
- Be sure to breath during the wax strips being pulled, tensing up can make things more painful
Avoid exfoliating right after your wax, wait at least 48-72hrs. You should exfoliate 2-3 times a week depending on skin type and sensitivity.
Hydration is key! You should be moisturizing at least once a day. Dry skin makes for a more painful wax service.
